I was so excited to learn that one of my favorite artists, Emily Costello (from Arizona) would be in town having a solo art exhibit on August 9th at Chimaya art gallery in Los Angeles – and even more excited that Lawrence and I could make it. Our friends Jose, Annette, and Theresa Armas would be there to support Emily too, so that would only add to our fun and art-filled day. (The Armas family are also our business partners at Arte de Nuestro Corazon.)
I met Emily on the Crafty Chica Cruise two years ago, and honestly, she was the highlight of the cruise for me. I’ve been a fan of her art for quite some time. When I met her in person, I became a bigger fan – she is the most real, coolest artist person I’ve met.
Emily’s work is unique, culturally inspired, and beautifully created no matter what medium she uses – paintings, mixed media pieces, assemblage art. Truly one-of-a-kind.
From Chimaya‘s page on Emily Costello:
“Emily is a self-taught painter, and mixed media artist, who finds much of her inspiration coming from her Mexican heritage, and its cultural icons and images. She is irresistibly attracted to the curious and bizarre, and creates images that amuse and intrigue her. She creates her artwork, assemblages, and nichos using a variety of mediums which include acrylics, wood, tin, clay, and found objects. She volunteers at Arizona School of the Arts, and also teaches youth art classes at Vision Kidz.”

beautiful assemblage art pieces by Emily Costello. you really need to see these in person to appreciate the work!
Emily is also a member of the artist group Phoenix Fridas, for those of you in/near Arizona.
It was a great day out. I really need to spend more time in art-filled spaces – I got home refreshed and inspired!
’til next time…
