Hi! Thanks for being here.
My name is Susie. I’m a self-taught artist, a former preschool teacher. I live in sunny southern California.
I loved working with small children – I worked with children from ages 2 to 5. My favorite moments were when it was just me and the kids – learning together and playing together. I worked at the same children’s center for 20 years before I started feeling unhappy, stressed out ALL the time, and incomplete…
I no longer was doing what made me happy.
After much discussion with my husband, Lawrence, I quit my full time teacher position to pursue art full time. It was scary and exhilarating all at the same time!
Now – a few years down the road:
I own 2 Etsy shops, one selling my artwork (Susie Carranza Studio), and one selling excess, unused art and craft supplies (Susie’s This & That). I’m learning more all the time about running online shops, dealing with customers, and marketing myself.
I’m doing what I love and loving what I do. Money is tighter, of course, than when we had two consistent full time incomes, but I’ve never been happier.
I started this blog as a way to share my art, my writings, and anything creative that catches my eye.
that’s all…for now. I appreciate you being here. I hope to share beautiful things with you! ♥
Hi Susie,
Thank you so much for stopping by! I just stopped by your blog and shop and have been admiring your work. You have a new fan, and I look forward to seeing what you create next.
I could really relate to your post about creating just to create. Since I’ve started blogging I sometimes find myself limited by committments to others, and I miss just making stuff without taking a picture of every step. I, too, have decided to take time just to play with materials and have fun. I think you have to in order to keep from getting burned out on blogging.
Have a great weekend!

thank you so much for the kind words, morena!
and i totally agree – making time just to play and have fun is crucial. i found myself worrying so much about ‘networking’ and social media that i was no longer creating like i used to. and now, as a new blogger, i really have to focus on finding the right balance.
again – thank you! 🙂
OMG!!! Susie, I just love your art bagde!!! I love all the colors, details and especially the saying! I could see more of those in your future…maybe little signs or even magnets with creative inspirational messages for us artists/crafters. Of course I would bring up making more to sell on your etsy and website! Wonderful job!
thanks annette! i LOVED making it – and i’m planning to make more for sure. i really like the idea of magnets & signs. i’ve already been playing with the idea of art pieces with inspirational sayings… 😉
